Construction Notifications

Advisories:

6/16/08 -
Please be advised that the asbestos abatement was completed over the weekend and Ogren Construction has resumed their construction activities on the project today.

Normal activities may resume in the ASL and computer labs.

However, please be reminded that the Academic Building is still under construction and no one should attempt to enter the building during the period of construction.

Older Updates:

6/11/08 - Please be advised that the final phase of asbestos abatement for the Academic Building Renovation Project will begin tomorrow, Thursday, June 12, 2008, at approximately 3:00 p.m.  It should be completed by Monday morning, June 16.

NO ONE IS PERMITTED IN THE BUILDING DURING THE PERIOD OF ABATEMENT, WITHOUT EXCEPTION -- THIS INCLUDES EMPLOYEES, STUDENTS, SECURITY, GENERAL PUBLIC, OR GENERAL CONSTRUCTION WORKERS.

Please be reminded that although no asbestos abatement will be taking place in ASL or the Computer Labs connected to the main Academic Building, no one is permitted in those areas during this period, at any time, without exception.

We will send an all campus notice out Monday morning clearing the building for occupancy.

If you have any questions, please call extension 400.

5/20/08 - Please be advised that the second phase of the asbestos abatement on the Academic Building renovation will begin some time early tomorrow morning, Wednesday, May 21, and will continue for a period of two to three weeks.

NO ONE, INCLUDING COLLEGE PERSONNEL, STUDENTS, OR VISITORS, WITHOUT EXCEPTION, SHALL BE PERMITTED IN THE ACADEMIC BUILDING AFTER 4:30 P.M. TODAY, TUESDAY, MAY 20.

Only authorized construction personnel will be permitted in the building during this time period.

We will notify everyone when the asbestos abatement has been completed, and we have been issued a Certificate of Occupancy for the abatement portion of the project.

5/7/08 -
The Academic Building renovation is proceeding quite well on the second floor and is, in fact, slightly ahead of schedule.  As with any construction project, particularly one which involves such extensive renovations, it has been necessary to alter and adjust the construction schedule in response to unknown or unforeseen building conditions throughout the process.  However, we believe we are at a point in the project where we have a degree of confidence that no further major scheduling changes will be necessary.  I would like to share the following important dates with you.

- For those of you who are vacating the Academic Building for the summer, please be reminded that your office should be packed and ready to go no later than Wednesday, May 14.  If you need any assistance or supplies to accomplish this goal, please let me know as soon as possible.

- College personnel will be removing all remaining furnishings on the first floor on Friday, May 16, Monday, May 19, and Tuesday, May 20.

- Second-floor asbestos abatement is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, May 21, and be completed on or before Wednesday, May 28.

- Asbestos removal on the first floor is scheduled to commence on Wednesday, May 28, and be finished on or before Wednesday, June 4.

- There will be a major electrical shut down on Thursday, June 5, Friday, June 6, and, if required, Saturday, June 7, and Sunday, June 8.  This shut down will affect the Academic Building and Library/Distance Learning Center.  This shut down is required to facilitate the electrical distribution upgrade to and within the Academic Building, and to replace the electrical feed lines to the Library/DLC.  All power should return to normal on or before Monday, June 9.

- The ASL wing will be closed Thursday and Friday, June 5 and 6, for the replacement of the two rooftop air conditioning units.

I will update this schedule some time during the first week or June.  Once again, thank you to everyone for their patience during this renovation.  If you have any questions or need anything at all, please do not hesitate to call me.

- Tony

At this time, please be reminded, and remind your students, that the second floor of the Academic Building is closed daily from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation.
